Upcoming Events:
Calling all Father Figures: Please join us for Bowling with your Head Start child on Sat. Feb. 26th from 1-3pm. We will be bowling at Nickel bowl in Canyonville, Ten Down in Roseburg and at the Bowling Alley in Reedsport. Head Start will pay for the Head Start child and one adult, any other family members that attend would be paid for by the family. Each Head Start child participating will receive a book to take home and keep.
Don't forget about your classrooms Family Fun Night. Check with your FSE or Teaching Team member for the date.
Family Literacy Activity Ideas: Keep the Conversation Going: During Bath time, see what interests your child. Whether talking about getting clean, body parts, soap or bubbles, try for five or more turns back and forth. Pretend with your child. For example, throw a blanket over a table to make a tent. Crawl under the table with her and watch the conversation take off! Read a favorite story three days in a row. Pause when reading to encourage conversation. Watch the conversation become longer and richer as your child gets to know the story. While getting readty to go out with your child, encourage conversation about where you are going. Keep the conversation going for at least five turns. Literacy Ideas are from The Hanen Centre's Preschool language and Literacy Planner 2010-11.
Practice the classroom rules with your child at home to help him or her have a more consistent experience. Our rules are Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful. Talk about these words with your child and what they mean to you. Ask your child for examples of how they follow these rules at school. These rules are consistent with our Positive Behavior Intervention Support. For more information about PBIS and how you can implement it visit http://csefel.vanderbilt.edu/ .
